Receive Microsoft Points from Earning Achievements?
Last week the official Twitter account for Xbox Live Rewards, @XboxLiveRewards, released a statement saying that gamers will have “a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements” starting this Fall.
Players that are members of the Xbox Live Rewards program can receive Microsoft points for doing things such as renewing their Gold subscription or taking a short monthly survey. The addition of Achievements to the mix could be the first step in taking the program to another level. Maybe it’s just me, but the possibility of having some extra points attached to my account for all of my hard work grinding achievements in Avatar: The Burning Earth gets me really excited.
All joking aside, this could be a huge step for Microsoft going forward. I think that this will increase the longevity of games by giving gamers a reason to go back and put some extra hours into a game to get achievements. Also this will promote more sales in the marketplace. Think of it this way, one could possibly purchase a game, get some achievements, then use the rewards points towards DLC for that game thus extending the experience with the game.
With that being said, Microsoft has not made anything official regarding how achievements will be incorporated into the rewards program. We will just have to wait until the Fall and see what Microsoft has in store for us.
