Echoes of Aeons – Crowd Funding Pick

Well, it’s Friday and what a great time to maybe take a little break from mainstream and focus on some of the smaller projects out there. Just this week, a new console called OUYA on Kickstarter has been taking a lot of the spotlight. But what about the smaller projects with great potential as well? There are many websites that support crowd funding, so though I won’t always feature Kickstarter projects, this one has caught my eye.

Echoes of Aeons is an action RPG, that will be released on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC. Seeing them expand beyond PC, it seems they are off to a great start.  Many video games I have noticed have focused on the PC only.  Anything that is compatible beyond PC shows enthusiasm and ambition. (Not to knock PC gaming at all, as I am also a PC gamer. I just see a LOT of crowd funding projects be exclusively PC)  Additionally, Echoes of Aeons will be digitally painted to make use of tablet devices and HD monitors.

The game is also projected to be about 20 hours, and features an in-depth story, crafting, multitude of weapons, and side quests.

What Caught My Eye - There are tons of projects tossed around on sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, but this one didn’t take long to grab me. I love the artistic look to this game, and it already had gameplay footage and music clips to listen to.

A lot of projects out there barely have a screenshot or two before asking for money. Anyone can say something is unique, revolutionary, and will pull at your heartstrings, but not everyone has something to show for it.  Just take a look at the beautiful imagery.  It looks like something you can hang on your wall, or use as a wallpaper on your computer.

Echoes of Aeons displays Alchimia Studios‘ deep passion for quality and artistry, as this is only their debut game.  I love games that not only promise a good story, but explain that the art behind the game is one of their biggest focus.  I’m not saying I need top of the line graphics.  2D, 3D, watercolor painting, high resolution; it makes no difference to me.  What I love is an artist expressing themselves in different ways and mediums.  That is what I see in Echoes of Aeons.

You can also hear their means of expression through all of the music compositions.  You can start listening to samples of their music on their Kickstarter page.

If you look at their list of rewards, which include T-shirts, buttons, hardcover artbooks, art decals, high quality prints, and even a stein, among other rewards, they are treating this like a crowd funding project from beginning to end.

Let’s face it, we all love swag and collector’s editions.  I’m a bit of a sucker for these kind of things.

In addition to the beautiful artwork, I am an RPG gal and I am always excited to see something like this presented in such a professional way. I have seen so many RPG Maker type games out there, asking for funding, and I usually shy away from those since it is a program you can purchase for about $30 and use with no programming knowledge. That’s not to knock RPG Maker people out there. To make a great RPG Maker game that is unique and stands out, it is all about the artwork, story, and maybe tweeks you make to the program, and I commend those that can.

What I am saying is, it’s always a breath of fresh air to see a project like this that is made by artists who know enough about programming to bring their imagery to life for gamers. It’s hard to say how the controls will really work in the end.  And, I am not really a tablet gamer.

However, as this is Alchimia Studios‘ debut project, and they already have so much to show for what they can do….I could really see the studio itself taking off. Even if Echoes of Aeons isn’t their biggest selling game, the company itself displays some impressive talent.

Take a look at their project, and all of their rewards (loots), at least. And even if you don’t have the money or resources to back them up, remember the name, so when the game is released you can remember where they came from.

As always, if you believe in a project and do not have the funds to back it up, tell your friends about it, tweet about it, or just drop them comments along the way of your support.
